Citadel ALLIES
The Citadel ALLIES program seeks to develop and maintain a network of informed students, faculty, and staff who are skilled at responding knowledgeably and sensitively to LGBTQ+ individuals' needs and who are willing to be visibly supportive of those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ). The mission of the ALLIES program is to empower individuals and groups with the skills and training necessary to communicate to others the commitment we are making as an institution to creating LGBTQ+ inclusive environments, effectively putting into practice our core values of Honor, Duty, and Respect. This program educates administrators, faculty, staff, and students about important aspects of the LGBTQ+ experience including vulnerability to bullying, rejection by loved ones, discrimination, and high risk of suicide/self-harm. ALLIES workshops are tailored specifically to the needs of members of the LGBTQ+ community at The Citadel, taking into account The Citadel’s unique culture. The ALLIES program is part of a broader effort to offer educational programs that help individuals develop skills to work with diverse populations to support a welcoming environment for all people on our campus.
